AI helps solve production challenges

The enzyme proved difficult to produce in a soluble form for several years. AlphaFold, an artificial intelligence system, provided structural predictions that helped researchers understand the enzyme's unusual architecture. These predictions allowed the team to identify changes that could improve its production.

Study published in chemical journal

The research team published their findings in the journal Chem & Bio Engineering. Their bacterial counterparts differ from the best-characterized fungal galactose oxidases currently available. This discovery expands the toolkit for producing pharmaceuticals and food ingredients under mild conditions.
