We publish summaries of reporting by other newsrooms, checked against their sources before they appear. When something is wrong, this page says what we do about it and how to tell us.
What counts as a correction
Anything factually wrong in something we published: a wrong figure, a misattributed quote, a name or place we got wrong, a source credited that did not report it, or a summary that misrepresents what the sources said.
A story that changes because the news changed is not a correction. When outlets revise their reporting, or more of them pick a story up, we rewrite the summary against the fuller picture and mark it Updated.
What we do
- Wrong on a material fact. We fix it and add a dated correction note to the foot of the story saying what was wrong and what it now says. The note stays for as long as the story does.
- Wrong throughout, or unsupported by the sources. We remove the story and replace it with a note at the same address explaining why. We do not delete the page, because a link that dies tells the reader nothing.
- Wrong in the original reporting. If an outlet we summarised has itself corrected or withdrawn a report, we update our summary and say so. We do not quietly drop it.
- Typographical or formatting. Fixed without a note.
We do not remove a story because its subject dislikes it, and we do not remove accurate reporting on request. If a story is accurate but incomplete, the answer is usually more sources, not fewer.
How to ask for one
Write to editor@parallax.news with:
- the link to the story
- what specifically is wrong
- where the correct information can be checked, if you have it
You do not need to be the subject of the story, and you do not need to explain who you are. A link and a sentence is enough.
What to expect
We aim to acknowledge within two working days and to act, or explain why we are not acting, within five. A clear factual error with a source attached is usually fixed the same day. Where we decide not to make a change, we will tell you why rather than leaving it unanswered.
