New speech clock predicts biological age from voice recordings
Scientists published a new tool in Science Advances that estimates how fast people are ageing based on their vocal characteristics.

The system analyzes hundreds of vocal traits such as pitch and talking speed. Researchers calculated the difference between a person's chronological age and their predicted speech age. Large gaps in this measurement were found to be strongly associated with cognitive issues like dementia.
Simple recordings offer value
Neuroscientist Agustín Ibáñez stated that four minutes of speech is enough for the model to show predictive value. The method avoids expensive technologies like brain scans or blood tests. This approach could help track ageing in low-resource regions where advanced medical equipment is scarce.
