Model connects structure to waves

The research team developed a continuum model incorporating elastic heterogeneity and microscopic charge fluctuations. This approach describes how electromagnetic waves interact with vibrational dynamics within the material. The study focused on glycerol glass as a representative molecular example.

Calculations match experimental data

Researchers applied the model to reproduce experimentally measured dielectric function parts across 0.3 to 2.5 THz. The analysis showed that transverse contributions influence the response around the boson peak frequency. Calculations accurately matched both real and imaginary parts of the complex dielectric function.
