Professor Takuji Miki discusses quantum computer progress and future applications
Professor Takuji Miki from the Graduate School of Science, Technology and Innovation explains how quantum computers differ from conventional machines and their potential uses.

How quantum computers operate differently
Conventional computers process information using bits that hold values of either zero or one. Quantum computers instead use quantum bits, known as qubits, which can exist in a superposition of both states at once. This ability allows them to handle multiple possibilities simultaneously for specific types of calculations.
Potential applications in chemistry
One prominent application involves performing calculations necessary for developing new medicines or materials. Companies and research institutes around the world are currently competing to develop this technology. The field has moved from being called a pipe dream to approaching practical use.
