New method transforms single sources

Researchers created a process called magnetic omniconversion to change fields from one source into many predetermined forms. This approach allows engineers to use basic coils or permanent magnets for complex applications like MRI scanners and quantum computers. The technique achieves exact mathematical precision without needing large systems of optimized coils.

Study removes previous limitations

Witlef Wieczorek from Chalmers University states the method is universal and improves accuracy for transforming magnetic fields. The findings appear in the journal Science Advances after testing the concept on various field configurations. This innovation simplifies the design process for technologies that rely on tailored magnetic properties.
