Malaysia Umno pays fine to move former prime minister Najib Razak to house arrest
Malaysia's United Malays National Organisation party paid a court fine on Friday to enable the transfer of former prime minister Najib Razak to house arrest under terms of a royal pardon.

Fundraising campaign covers penalty cost
The party settled the 50 million ringgit requirement using money collected from a public donation drive. Umno secretary general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki confirmed that the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund raised sufficient money to complete the process.
Payment made at high court
Officials completed the payment procedure at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Friday morning. This action fulfills a condition of the September royal pardon that allows Najib to serve his remaining sentence at home until August 2028.
Former leader faces corruption charges
Najib Razak was found guilty of corruption related to embezzlement involving billions of dollars tied to the state investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad. He has consistently denied wrongdoing while serving more than four years behind bars before this transfer.
