Law targets illicit offshore assets

The newly adopted statute gives authorities tools to pursue illegal money held outside Chinese borders. Officials can now investigate misconduct by Chinese firms operating in any jurisdiction around the world. The law also allows Beijing to block unauthorized foreign investigations into wrongdoing that occurred within China.

Mechanisms for international cooperation

The legislation establishes formal procedures for handling cases that involve multiple countries. It aims to deepen cooperation between nations while safeguarding national sovereignty and security. State news agency Xinhua reported that the measure took effect immediately upon approval.
