Chemicals removed from former fuel depot in Oxfordshire
A developer says barrels of firefighting foam containing PFAS chemicals have been removed from the Islip Fuel Depot site in Oxfordshire.

Site history and planning approval
The Islip Fuel Depot was previously an RAF and Esso fuel storage facility. Outline planning permission has been approved to build residential and affordable homes on the land. The developer took over the site in 2012.
Discovery of chemical barrels
Campaigners discovered about 40 barrels of firefighting foam liquid left at the location for decades. This liquid contains PFAS, a group of chemicals often called forever chemicals. The developer stated it became aware of the barrels in recent weeks.
Removal and cleanup plans
Newcore removed the containers in a responsible and professional manner after identifying potential contamination. Testing has been carried out at the approved development site. Any identified contamination will be cleaned up immediately by the developer.
