Saudi Arabia denies Houthis demanded $51 billion and recognition
Saudi officials rejected a Wall Street Journal report claiming Yemeni Houthis sought $51 billion and official recognition on Thursday.

Official denial of claims
Deputy Minister for Public Diplomacy Rayed Krimly posted on X that the report had no basis in truth. He described the allegations as pure fabrication by the newspaper writers or their alleged sources. The official insisted Yemen already possesses an internationally recognised government.
Accusations against the militia
Krimly accused the group of rebelling against the Yemeni government and causing famine among its people. He also stated they attacked commercial shipping in the Red Sea and rejected peace efforts. The Saudi official noted these actions dragged the country into conflicts that do not serve its interests.
Context of renewed fighting
The denial comes as hostilities between Riyadh and the Houthis continue to escalate in the region. This conflict is linked to the larger Middle East war that erupted earlier this year. Reports indicate the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran which prompted Tehran to retaliate.
