Nintendo Switch 2 sales drop after price hike and slower unit movement
Nintendo reported a decline in quarterly net profit and Switch 2 unit sales in Tokyo on Thursday while maintaining its annual forecast.

Quarterly profit falls below estimates
Net profit for the second quarter dropped 29 percent to 73.5 billion yen, missing analyst expectations of 82.2 billion yen. The company sold nearly 6.5 million consoles in the first half of the fiscal year, a decrease from the previous year's 10.4 million units. Operating profit rose nearly 50 percent during the same period due to strong game sales and tariff refunds.
Hardware price increase impacts volume
Nintendo raised the retail price of the Switch 2 by $50 in early May, which coincided with a global rise in memory chip costs. Shipments slowed significantly after the initial launch window as demand cooled following the hardware release on June 5, 2025. The firm still projects selling 16.5 million units for the current fiscal year despite the recent slowdown.
