New role confirmed on Friday

The appointment was made public this week to address current batting struggles in red-ball cricket. Hussey will guide the squad during the upcoming five-match T20 series against England starting in November. His duties also extend to preparation for the 2027 World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Recent form prompted the move

Australia recently lost a two-to-one Test series against South Africa before suffering another defeat to Bangladesh. The team management seeks to stop a decline in performance across all formats of the game. Hussey previously turned down an offer from England to become their Test batting mentor instead.

Experience spans multiple nations

The 51-year-old played over three hundred matches for Australia across different cricket formats during his career. He has worked with coaching staffs in both Australia and England throughout his professional life. Hussey expressed excitement about contributing to the group during this challenging period for the side.
