Federal government adjusts fuel prices with petrol hike and diesel cut for October 6

The federal government in Islamabad adjusted petroleum product prices on Monday, raising petrol costs while lowering diesel rates effective Tuesday.

New retail prices take effect

Petrol will now cost Rs393.64 per litre after an increase of 88 paisas. High-speed diesel is priced at Rs397.76 per litre following a reduction of Rs1.88. These changes replace the previous daily rates that applied from October 3 to October 5.

Global markets drive adjustments

The Petroleum Division stated that international market developments necessitated these specific price revisions. Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority officials noted changes in Platts rates and premiums as factors. Brent crude futures fell by $1.10 while US West Texas Intermediate dropped 89 cents.

Relief scheme for small vehicles

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a relief scheme on September 13 to help lower-income consumers. This program offers Rs100 per litre off petrol for motorcycles and cars with engines up to 800cc. An estimated 11.8 million beneficiaries are expected to be covered under this proposal.
