Utah regulators approve AI system to write acne prescriptions without human review
Utah officials announced a new pilot program on Monday allowing an artificial intelligence product to evaluate patients and issue drug prescriptions for acne treatment.

Startup launches skin assessment tool
A startup called Nolla Health will launch a service that assesses patients using structured intake forms and photos of their skin. The system determines whether low-risk drugs are appropriate for mild-to-moderate acne cases. In the initial stages, licensed clinicians will review AI decisions before signing off on prescriptions.
Future plans include autonomous prescribing
Nolla Health may eventually be allowed to prescribe drugs without prior human review under state supervision. This pilot is part of a broader expansion of the Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy sandbox program. The company raised $4.5 million from investors including General Catalyst last year to develop these technologies.
