Adults switching from injectable GLP-1 drugs to Wegovy pills lost weight in study
A retrospective analysis presented at the 2026 European Association for the Study of Diabetes meeting in Milan found that adults with overweight or obesity who switched from injections to the oral semaglutide pill lost an average of 4.1 percent of their body weight over three months.

Weight loss results after switch
Participants in the OCTANE study gained no additional weight after changing from injectable semaglutide or tirzepatide to the oral version. About forty percent of the group achieved a loss of at least five percent within the first quarter. The researchers noted that these findings come from a real-world sample rather than a controlled clinical trial.
Changes in obesity classification
The proportion of people classified as having obesity dropped significantly during the observation period. This shift moved the rate down from eighty-seven point one percent to sixty-five point five percent after the treatment change. The study team presented these data points at a conference in Italy before peer review publication.
Study limitations and scope
The analysis included a random sample of one hundred ninety-four adults with overweight or obesity. Researchers stated that the retrospective design prevents them from proving causation for the observed weight changes. The results remain unpublished in a scientific journal as of the conference presentation.
