Researchers coat MXene with polymer to boost carbon dioxide conversion
A team led by Professor Su-Il In at DGIST developed a polymer-coated MXene catalyst in collaboration with universities in Korea and Thailand to improve carbon dioxide-to-methane production.
New coating protects material
The research team protected the surface of MXene using a polymer layer. This step addresses the material's vulnerability to water and oxidation. The combination also includes copper nanoparticles to enhance catalytic performance.
Process converts greenhouse gas
The technology uses sunlight to turn carbon dioxide into methane through artificial photosynthesis. This method treats carbon dioxide as a feedstock for fuel production. Findings regarding the conversion process were published in Advanced Energy Materials.
