Dormice found on Dorset farm after biodiversity improvements
Hazel dormice have been discovered on Babers Farm in Marshwood, near Bridport, Dorset, following habitat work by the Countryside Regeneration Trust since May.
Survey results show positive signs
The Countryside Regeneration Trust installed 39 footprint tunnels along hedgerows and woodland edges to monitor wildlife. Nine of these tunnels recorded footprints from hazel dormice, marking the first positive results for this farm in the group. Hazel dormice are a European Protected Species considered vulnerable to extinction.
Farm improvements support ecosystem health
The presence of these animals indicates a healthy landscape with diverse woodland and species-rich hedgerows. The trust works with tenant farmers to restore soil health while producing food across its 16 properties. Current data helps managers protect areas where dormice are present.
