Study examines quarterly earnings transcripts

Researchers from Binghamton University, Kennesaw State University and Arizona State University analyzed transcripts from public company quarterly calls. They focused on two parts of the call: the prepared presentation and the live question and answer session.

AI influences prepared speech content

The team found strong similarities across the prepared presentations because AI tools are widely available for revision. In contrast, the live Q&A sessions remained distinct due to their unplanned nature and spontaneous responses.

Market reaction turns negative

Stylistic convergence in language is linked to more negative initial market reactions from investors. When communication becomes more uniform, investors may view the disclosure as boilerplate rather than innovative.
