Unilateral announcement sparks confusion

Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that both parties agreed to stop attacking energy targets effective immediately. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated the deal was news to him and awaited specific details from Washington. Russian strikes contradict claims

Moscow struck a thermal power plant in Kharkiv shortly after the US president made his announcement. A drone also hit a facility in Kyiv causing widespread power outages in the capital city. Ukrainian officials confirmed these attacks occurred despite Trump's assertion that both sides had reached an accord.

Trump faces high diesel prices ahead of next month's midterm elections which may influence his political strategy. He previously made similar claims in September without confirmation from either side involved in the conflict.
