Dozen airlines face bomb threat crisis across Europe

Thirty-two bomb threats targeting twelve European airlines over four days have forced emergency inspections and flight diversions despite all claims proving to be hoaxes.

Emergency actions disrupt schedules

An Aer Lingus plane touched down at a base situated 1,000 kilometers away from where it was supposed to go because fuel supplies ran out. Other aircraft required military jet escorts or mid-air inspections by cabin crew to ensure safety without alarming passengers. Some planes were quietly inspected while flying before landing at different airports in various countries. Sniffer dogs and specialist teams searched commercial planes on the tarmac for explosives.

Experts analyze threat patterns

Marco Chan, an aviation specialist and ex-commercial airline pilot from Kingston University, stated that carriers must adhere to rigid procedures until threats are fully confirmed. Paul Mason, an aviation security expert, noted that daily diversions for technical issues often exceed those caused by hoax bomb threats. According to him, passengers typically do not receive refunds since such events are not caused by the carriers. The random nature of targets and lack of credible intelligence regarding perpetrators remains a worrying aspect.

Potential hybrid warfare concerns

Mason suggested the incidents bear hallmarks of hybrid warfare involving unconventional methods such as cyber attacks with plausible deniability. Although an extremist misogynist group claimed responsibility for some incidents, its founder denied involvement in those specific cases. Russia has stated it has nothing to do with the threats but proxies could be involved. If misguided individuals copy these threats they could find themselves in serious trouble under existing laws.
