Halloween protests turn violent in France as clashes erupt
Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators marched across France on Saturday for a third consecutive weekend of cost-of-living protests before clashes broke out with police.

Peaceful marches end in violence
The demonstrations were largely peaceful until evening approached and tensions erupted in several cities. Police fired tear gas and stun grenades to disperse crowds joined by masked rioters. Some demonstrators hurled stones and a Molotov cocktail at security forces in Paris and elsewhere.
Large crowds gather nationwide
About 320,000 people took part in rallies around the country according to the interior ministry. This number is down from an estimated 410,000 participants last weekend. Approximately 70,000 demonstrators marched along boulevards on the south-eastern outskirts of Paris.
Heavy police deployment planned
France's interior minister warned that Saturday looked like a very high risk day for violence. Authorities deployed 70,000 police and gendarmes including elite units to quell unrest on the sidelines. The interior ministry stated these forces would work to disperse groups of masked rioters.
