Bhutan volunteers build 108 stupas for new mindfulness city
Thousands of volunteers in Bhutan constructed 108 Buddhist stupas along a riverbank near the Indian border to support a planned mindfulness city.

Volunteer effort marks construction start
Officials stated that more than 40,000 people participated in raising the structures. The work began after midnight on Sunday as part of an ambitious tourism plan. These solid towers are intended to serve as a permanent physical form of prayer.

The 15-metre tall monuments extend across 12 kilometres of land near the future Gelephu Mindfulness City. This location sits close to the border with India in the Himalayan kingdom. The project aims to drive economic growth through this new development.
