Focus on biodegradable materials

The studies examine how magnesium implants interact with the human body environment. Unlike titanium or steel, these magnesium devices dissolve after fulfilling their purpose as bone screws. This property allows patients to avoid a second surgery for implant removal.

One paper published in Applied Surface Science discusses amino acids on magnesium surfaces. Another article investigates the role of sparse alloying elements alongside these amino acids. A third study looks at how a bone mineral influences the breakdown process.
