Researchers identify two new sea spider species in Salish Sea

First species has hairy legs
One of the new animals features a hairy body and striking red eyes. This creature can groom itself using comb-like appendages attached to its limbs.
Second species carries parasites
The other individual is frequently covered in tiny external parasites. Researchers noted that many more undiscovered species likely remain hidden within this region.
Study fills century-old gap
These findings represent the first formal descriptions of new sea spiders from the Salish Sea in nearly 100 years. The study combines physical observations with genetic analysis to address gaps in understanding these marine animals.
