UN experts find reasonable grounds US committed war crimes in Iran strikes

Findings submitted to Geneva council

The independent fact-finding mission will submit its report to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. The panel examined US conduct during the war that began in February and Iranian responses to unrest starting in late December. Investigators concluded the attacks constituted indiscriminate strikes causing civilian deaths and damage to infrastructure.

Casualties at Minab school site

The mission found reasonable grounds to believe US forces were responsible for an attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh primary school in Minab. Iranian officials state more than 150 people died there, including around 120 schoolchildren. The report notes the US relied on intelligence suggesting a senior commander was present but failed to verify this information adequately.

Iranian crackdown also investigated

The experts also found Iranian authorities committed crimes against humanity during their deadly crackdown on anti-government protests. The findings describe Iranian civilians as caught between violations by their own government and the conflict with the United States and Israel.
