UK and France scrap migrant exchange deal over Channel crossings
Britain and France ended their pilot programme for exchanging migrants crossing the English Channel on Wednesday.

The Home Office stated that the one in one out arrangement is no longer processing new cases. Under this plan, individuals arriving in the UK by boat could be detained and returned to France. Approximately 1500 people had already been sent back while a slightly lower number were transferred to Britain.
Reasons for ending cooperation
The agreement was originally intended to last three years but included a clause allowing earlier termination. French officials reportedly pushed to end the cooperation quickly during talks in September. The deal aimed to curb small boat crossings and reset diplomatic ties after Brexit.
