Widespread flight cancellations across region
Taiwan's transport ministry reported that 262 local flights and 715 international or cross-strait flights were cancelled by Friday morning. The island's largest airports, including Taoyuan and Taipei Songshan, faced widespread disruptions while 14 airports in eastern mainland China were also expected to be affected.
Casualties and power outages reported
One person died and 171 others were injured during the storm's approach. More than 77,000 homes lost power before electricity was restored to most areas, while thousands of residents were evacuated from mountainous regions.
Storm track and wind speeds
The Central Weather Administration stated the storm was about 220 km east of Taiwan with gusts reaching around 191 kph. Forecasters warned that landfall could not be ruled out if the system stalled or changed direction near the coast.
