CNN MS NOW and Politico sue White House over press ban

Three news organizations filed a lawsuit in Washington DC against the Trump administration after being barred from White House grounds for reporting.

First Amendment lawsuit filed Monday

CNN, MS NOW and Politico notified the government they are filing suit to protect their First Amendment rights. The outlets argue the White House revoked their credentials without notice or process because officials objected to their reporting. They claim this action threatens press freedom and the public right to independent journalism free from interference.

Trump administration defends the ban

President Donald Trump stated he might add other outlets to the list of banned media organizations. He called the news media a security threat and described critical coverage as fake news that must be stopped immediately. Representatives for the White House did not respond to requests for comment regarding the legal action.

Pool duties cancelled for trip

CNN was removed from pooled coverage responsibilities shared by major news outlets for an upcoming event. The White House TV pool decided not to cover events designated as pool coverage of the President during his travel plans. It remains unclear which news organization will take CNNs place or if a replacement pool will be put in place.
