Thousands protest in Paris amid clashes and banned rallies
Union demonstrators and police clashed in Paris on Saturday as thousands protested across France against the government.

Protest turnout remains lower than before
Authorities reported 146,000 participants nationwide, including 46,000 in the capital. Unions claimed higher figures of 250,000 people across France and 75,000 in Paris. This turnout was lower than the previous three weekends of demonstrations.
Police used tear gas against attackers
Security forces deployed tear gas after individuals threw projectiles and homemade fireworks at officers. Police stated that a group of 200 violent people attacked them while arresting a man who set fire to a trash bin.
Authorities banned rival Yellow Vest rally
Police thwarted a separate Yellow Vest rally that organizers had planned along the traditional route. Some 70,000 security forces were deployed to manage the situation after mass protests on October 17.
