Swedish climate scholar Andreas Malm barred from entering UK
Immigration officials blocked Swedish academic Andreas Malm from entering the United Kingdom before a planned conference in London next week.

Official reason for travel ban
Home Office officials told Malm his presence may not be considered conducive to the public good. The decision was communicated to him before he traveled to the country. He had been granted Electronic Travel Authorisation which was reportedly cancelled on Wednesday.
Planned conference and speakers
Malm was scheduled to headline a Tribune magazine event alongside Huda Ammori, co-founder of Palestine Action. The group is currently banned under UK law as a proscribed organisation. The panel discussion was set to coincide with a Supreme Court challenge regarding the ban.
Reactions from academic and author
Malm described the sudden restriction on his travel as scandalous and urged the government to reconsider. Author Sally Rooney stated that the decision represents a sad and frightening act of cultural self-harm. Malm noted he has conducted archival research and lectured at dozens of universities in the UK for decades.
