Officers faced difficulty containing large groups of people jostling to secure spots at the tented location. Some individuals broke through security lines along the designated route while others ran in the darkness. Police fired shots into the air during the chaotic transfer process.

Authorities deploy officers and drones for control

More than 170 police officers were deployed to manage the situation alongside drone technicians. The Spanish government stated that over 3,000 migrants were transferred during the operation which started at 07:00 local time. Ceuta authorities estimate around 13,000 migrants remain in the enclave after most of the July arrivals have returned.
