Robert McClelland named new head of National Anti-Corruption Commission
Former judge Robert McClelland has been appointed as the new commissioner of the National Anti-Corruption Commission following the resignation of Paul Brereton.

Selection process and appointments
Attorney General Michelle Rowland confirmed that McClelland was chosen through an open, competitive selection process. Christopher Savundra has been named as his deputy commissioner for the role.
Previous roles and background
McClelland served as the attorney general in the Rudd government from 2007 until 2011. He currently holds the position of deputy chief justice at the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.
Start date for new terms
The two officials are expected to begin their five-year terms in January next year. This appointment follows a period of scrutiny regarding the commission's former leadership.
