Northern Ireland court allows Orange Order march in Portadown
A Belfast court permitted an Orange Order parade to proceed down Garvaghy Road in Portadown on Sunday morning after overturning a temporary ban.
High Court reverses injunction order
Justice Patricia Smyth initially suspended the march following a five-hour hearing on Saturday. Later that evening, the Court of Appeal ruled that the high court judge had erred in law. A new application to stop the protest was also dismissed by Justice Michael Humphreys early Sunday.
Protesters gather at start time
Residents opposed to the route challenged the Parades Commission ruling that allowed the march. Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O'Neill and Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald attended the protest site. A crowd assembled on Garvaghy Road as the parade was scheduled to begin at 8am.
