North Korea fires two ballistic missiles off eastern coast on Sunday

South Korea's military says North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea from the Wonsan area on Sunday.

First launch detected at 3pm

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff reported detecting the first projectile around 3pm local time. The missile flew approximately 450 kilometres into the East Sea before impact.

Second missile launched three hours later

A second short-range ballistic missile was fired at roughly 5:50pm from the same location. This second projectile traveled more than 600 kilometres according to South Korean officials.

South Korea, the United States and Japan are closely sharing information regarding these launches. The Japanese prime minister's office confirmed the event while noting the projectile had already fallen.
