Myanmar authorities release photos of detained Aung San Suu Kyi after receiving gift from King Charles
Myanmar officials delivered a package from Britain's King Charles to detained leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Monday, releasing new images of her.

Package contents and diplomatic message
Home ministry officials handed over two books about soil along with one sealed envelope. The delivery included a sealed diplomatic communication sent directly by King Charles of the United Kingdom. Authorities described Suu Kyi as a special female prisoner during this interaction.
Photos show her current location
Released pictures depict the 81-year-old Nobel laureate smiling in a wood-panelled room. A paper calendar is visible on the wall behind her in the images. She remains under house arrest at an undisclosed location in Naypyidaw.
Context of recent detention
Suu Kyi has not met any foreign leader since her detention in February 2021. The military coup that removed her from power triggered a civil war killing more than 100,000 people according to ACLED.
