Flavio Bolsonaro arrives in Miami with family after refusing Brazilian court order
Defeated Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro and his family landed in Miami on Wednesday following a refusal to comply with a Supreme Court directive.
Route taken from Brazil
The group entered northern Argentina late Tuesday evening before boarding a private jet. They flew through Guayaquil, Ecuador, and disembarked at Miami's Opa-Locka Executive Airport on Wednesday. Images showed Flavio Bolsonaro, his wife, and two daughters leaving the Gulfstream G400 aircraft.
Reason for departure
Flavio Bolsonaro refused to surrender his passports after a Brazilian Supreme Court order linked to a money-laundering investigation. He denies any wrongdoing in the case involving alleged corruption and tax evasion charges. The United States government granted them entry visas despite the ongoing legal issues.
Diplomatic tensions rise
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva accused Washington of colluding with the Bolsonaro family to restore their power. Trump stated he would approve the visit after reports suggested a US State Department campaign aimed at helping them return to office. This move threatens to deepen the rift between Brazil and the United States.
