Eighteen suspects extradited to Florida for 2021 Haitian president assassination plot
US officials say eighteen people have been taken from Haiti to Florida to face trial for the July 2021 killing of President Jovenel Moïse.

Previous convictions and charges
Four men were already convicted in Miami for conspiracy to kill or kidnap Moïse. Those defendants faced possible life sentences after being linked to a private security firm. Prosecutors say eleven other individuals have been indicted so far in the case.
Role of mercenaries
Moïse was shot dead by a hired group of about twenty military-trained Colombian mercenaries. His security detail did not intervene to protect him at his private residence on July 7, 2021.
