Damaged Gaza building collapses killing at least 20 people

Gaza civil defence officials confirmed that the death toll includes five children among the victims. Rescue teams reported hearing voices from under the rubble while searching for dozens more people believed to be trapped. At least 14 others were injured when the structure gave way.

Building history and location

The seven-storey residential building on al-Sinaa Street had been hit by Israeli strikes before it crumbled. Residents stated that more than 10 families lived inside the apartment block when the collapse occurred. The incident took place in the Tal al-Hawa area of Gaza City.

Rescue equipment limitations

Emergency workers lack heavy machinery needed to reach those stuck beneath the debris. Officials say previous Israeli restrictions prevented the entry of necessary equipment into the territory. Search operations continue under extremely difficult conditions despite ongoing efforts to save lives.
