Chinese diplomat urges Germany to avoid trade war with EU
China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi called his German counterpart Johann Wadephul on Monday to warn against a trade war between Beijing and the European Union.

Wang stated that China and the EU are comprehensive strategic partners who should not engage in conflict. He emphasized that both sides must meet halfway to find solutions through dialogue and consultation. The Chinese ministry noted that closer cooperation serves the interests of both nations.
German stance on trade
The German Foreign Ministry confirmed that Wang and Wadephul agreed a stable global economy benefits China, Germany, and Europe. Officials said trade relations must rely on fair rules and a real level playing field. Berlin was urged to support free trade while opposing protectionist measures.
Regional issues discussed
The two diplomats also reviewed situations in Iran, Ukraine, and Taiwan during their conversation. Wang asked Germany to take concrete steps to safeguard relations and maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait. He added that such actions would create conditions for high-level bilateral exchanges.
