Wildwood director Travis Knight discusses Portland inspiration for new film
Laika studio director Travis Knight spoke to Condé Nast Traveler about how Portland, Oregon inspired the stop-motion movie Wildwood.

Production team draws local inspiration
The studio searched its own backyard for ideas to bring Colin Meloy's novel to life. Several scenes feature landmarks and elements familiar to people who grew up in the city.
Visual spectacles include giant animals
The film displays soaring eagles that are as large as commercial airplanes. Characters also encounter ancient trees with roots that sprawl across the entire realm.
Plot features conflict between worlds
A major battle sequence resembles the D-Day Landing scene from Saving Private Ryan. The protagonist Prue interacts with giant animal denizens living in the Impassable Wilderness.
