New York Plaza Hotel closes for four years starting January 2027
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts announced that New York City's historic Plaza Hotel will shut its doors in January 2027 for a restoration project lasting at least four years.

Scope of the planned shutdown
The closure will impact all 282 guest rooms, event spaces, and the Palm Court restaurant. Operators expect the property to remain closed until 2031 if cleanup finishes on schedule. A reopening date has not yet been officially announced by management.
Impact on condominium residents
The building contains 181 condominium units located within the structure. It remains unclear whether the ongoing restoration work will affect these residents. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts declined to provide further comment on this specific issue.
Historical status and location
The property sits at Fifth Avenue and Central Park South overlooking the park. The building was designated a New York City landmark in 1969 by officials. Architect Henry Janeway Hardenbergh designed the eighteen-story French Renaissance-style structure when it opened in 1907.
