Korean Air finalizes historic order for 103 Boeing aircraft
Korean Air and Boeing announced on Wednesday that they have finalized an agreement to purchase 103 new planes.
Fleet composition and value
The package covers wide-body passenger jets, freighters, and single-aisle models. The deal includes twenty 777-9s, twenty-five 787-10s, fifty 737-10s, and eight 777-8 Freighters. While the 787 is certified for service, the 777-8 Freighter remains under development.
Additional services and engines
The agreement also features a purchase of twenty-one spare engines from GE Aerospace and CFM International. A fifteen-year maintenance contract covers twenty-eight aircraft within the broader package. Advisors estimate the current market value of the planes is roughly $12.6 billion.
Strategic fleet expansion goals
This investment supports long-term growth following the integration of Asiana Airlines into the carrier. The airline aims to improve fuel efficiency by transitioning to these newer aircraft models. The plan was first unveiled during a visit by South Korean President Lee Jae-myung to Washington.
