Runway extension allows larger planes

The proposed project involves extending the existing runway from 7,000 feet to approximately 11,500 feet. This upgrade will permit operations for larger aircraft such as Boeing 777s at the facility. Passenger facilities will also be improved to handle increased traffic volumes.

Diverted flights serve regional hubs

Flights scheduled for Karachi, Nawabshah, or Sukkur could divert to Hyderabad during weather emergencies. Passengers would then travel by road to reach their final destinations. This arrangement helps airlines maintain onward travel arrangements when disruptions occur.

Last service ended in 2013

The airport has not handled a commercial passenger flight since Pakistan International Airlines operated its last service in 2013. A spokesperson for the authority confirmed that revival is part of current plans. No formal statement has been issued regarding the specific timeline yet.
