Hundreds evacuated from Grand Burstin hotel fire in Folkestone
Emergency services evacuated hundreds of people after a large fire broke out at the Grand Burstin hotel in Folkestone, Kent, just after 1am on Saturday.
Fire location and initial response
The blaze is believed to have started in the basement of the property located at The Harbour. Twenty-six fire engines were dispatched to the scene when the incident occurred overnight. No injuries relating to the fire have been reported by authorities.
Evacuation numbers and welfare support
About 280 people were taken to safety from the building during the operation. A welfare centre was established at Three Hills Sports Park for those affected. Folkestone and Hythe district council is providing support to all evacuated individuals.
Current status of the incident
Ten fire engines remained at the scene as updates were issued later in the morning. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined by investigators. Residents nearby were advised to keep windows closed and avoid the area.
