Hotel Lucile opens in Los Angeles after decade of church conversion
The Hotel Lucile opened in September 2026 as a 25-room boutique property in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, following more than ten years of controversy and renovation.

Former church becomes hotel
The building was originally constructed in 1931 as a Presbyterian church. It now features a restaurant and bar located in the former sanctuary. A cross remains on the roof while stained glass windows are still visible.
New operator arrives
Santa Barbara-based Casetta took over the property after a bankruptcy filing in 2020. The company specializes in adapting older structures and already owns other California locations. This project marks their latest adaptation of an historic site.
Area gains energy
The new lodging adds to the existing mix of stylish spots near Sunset Boulevard. Nearby attractions include the Silver Lake Farmers Market and the Photobooth Museum. The opening brings further activity to this main walkable hub.
