Hong Kong sees surge in mainland visitors during golden week holiday start
Mainland Chinese arrivals to Hong Kong increased sharply at the beginning of the National Day holiday.

First day visitor numbers rise
Immigration Department data shows 277,304 mainland visitors entered the city on October 1. This figure represents a 19.1 percent increase compared to the same date last year. Tourism officials suggest fireworks and a shorter break period contributed to this early rush.
Arrival figures moderate quickly
The number of visitors dropped significantly on the second day of the holiday period. Arrivals rose only 5.4 percent year on year to reach 234,007 people. Numbers remained nearly flat on the third day before a slight increase occurred on the fourth.
