George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opens in Los Angeles
The George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opened its doors to the public in Los Angeles on September 22.

The new institution includes over 30 art galleries, a sculpture garden, and 13 acres of green space. George Lucas and Mellody Hobson transformed the former asphalt parking lot in Exposition Park into this campus. Their combined collection contains more than 40,000 works that span different cultures and generations.
Leadership background and mission
George Lucas is known for creating Star Wars and Indiana Jones but sought a museum beyond movie buffs. Mellody Hobson previously served as chairman of DreamWorks Animation during the release of several blockbusters. Both leaders curated pieces to attempt dissipating hierarchies within the narrative arts.
