Windows 11 uses more RAM to keep frequently used apps ready

Microsoft's Windows 11 operating system reserves significant memory to preload data for applications users open often.

Memory management strategy changes

Earlier versions of the operating system conserved resources by using only the RAM needed for currently running programs. The latest update treats available memory as a resource to be utilized rather than saved for later. Unused memory is now considered wasted potential that could improve system performance.

System keeps data in fast storage

The computer stores data temporarily in memory because it offers much faster speeds than a hard drive or SSD. This approach allows the processor to access information quickly without waiting for slower storage devices. Users can switch between multiple items with greater ease when this method is active.

High usage levels are normal

Task Manager often shows a computer using more than 50 percent of its total memory even without many apps open. This high percentage does not necessarily indicate a problem that requires a technical fix. Most modern systems with 16GB of RAM will show similar usage patterns under this new management style.
