WhatsApp tests new birthday field inside contact information pages
WhatsApp is testing a new birthday field within its iOS beta version to help users track friend birthdays without using a separate calendar app.
New feature location and function
The messaging platform spotted this update in the Apple TestFlight program. The birthday section appears near the top of a contact page, directly below the name and last seen details. Users can view the date without scrolling through the entire screen.
Automatic data synchronization
If a birthday is saved in the phone Contacts app, WhatsApp displays that date on the contact information screen. Changing the date in the phone contacts will automatically update the information within the messaging application as well.
Previous reminder system comparison
An earlier beta version introduced birthday reminders through a new contacts tab using a cake emoji and a label. That previous feature alerts users once a year and stays visible for only one day instead of showing the date ahead of time.
