How the new setting works

Users must manually enable this feature within individual chat settings to activate it. Once turned on, media files from that conversation will not save automatically to the device gallery. Neither participant can export the chat history or access it from linked devices.

Limitations of the current tool

The restriction applies only to one-on-one conversations and does not cover group chats. Meta AI functions are also disabled inside these specific restricted conversations. The setting automatically affects both people involved in the selected chat.

Existing privacy tools remain active

WhatsApp states that its current Advanced Chat Privacy settings will continue to function alongside this new option. The feature is designed to give users greater control over selected private discussions without replacing older protections.
